Australian Attitudes to Music
A national research study conducted in April 2001 that offers quantitative data about who plays, what instrument, how they learn or learned, why they gave up and when (if they have), and a qualitative study of community attitudes to music. This is a mine of information that reveals the state of music making in Australia. For a full copy of the report, please
email to the Australian Music Association.
The Stevens Report
A joint study by the Australia Council, Music Council of Australia, Australian Music Association and the Australian Society for Music Education (ASME) which attempted to audit what music programs are being provided where in Australian schools. The project leader was Dr. Robin Stevens of Deakin University. The results were frustrating in that much of the required data isn’t held centrally by State education departments, but from what data is available it would seem that just 23% of State school students have access to music, whereas more than 85% of independent school students have access to music. Music Makers is committed to making music more available in the State sector.
Investing in our Schools Fund brochure
Explaining how to access the Australian Government funds that can be used, amongst other things, for music products and facilities. There’s a billion dollars available over four years, with $700 million specifically for State schools and $300 million for the independent sector.
